Carrot-Potato Bites (Aloo Gajar Kabab)
Hello! 👋 Today's recipe is something I put together because I wanted to use up ingredients in my refrigerator! 😬
We've all had days when the fridge is OVERLOADED with fruits and vegetables - so this was just my way of using up things.
Mom hack - I made aloo tarkari on the same day which I used in this recipe for Zoha 😁 along with boiled carrots.
This recipe is great for babies who are just starting their BLW journey and even toddles and adults!
Basically, the recipe is best for babies 6 months and above!
Without further ado, let's dive into the recipe! 👩🏻🍳
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 medium potato, steamed or boiled (or use tarkari like I did but don't add anymore seasonings)
- 1 medium carrot, steamed
- 1 egg, medium
- 2 tbsp. barley flour
- 3 tbsp. shredded cheese
- 1 tsp. each - garlic powder, onion powder, white pepper, and salt
NOTE: Skip the seasonings if your baby is under one year old please. Learn more on why babies under one can't have salt.
METHOD:
STEP 1:
Steam the potato and carrots; you can do it together no issues.
STEP 2:
Once the veggies and soft to touch, mash them up together very nicely. Do not use any tools besides a fork otherwise the potato will become too liquid-y.
STEP 3:
Add all the other ingredients and mix it all up nicely until it all comes together.
STEP 4:
Shape them into balls (ages 1+) or long strips (ages 6 months+).
STEP 5:
Now you can either air fry them (like I did) or you can shallow fry them. Remember, they don't need long because they're mostly cooked.
HOW CAN I SERVE THE CARROT-POTATO BITES?
OPTION 1:
You can use them as a side-dish like I have done here.
OPTION 2:
These are great as a snack too!
OPTION 3:
Break them apart and mix them in yoghurt to make a yoghurt bowl for your baby!
NOTE:
This recipe makes about 12 bites which should be enough for the week. You can freeze these in a zip-lock bag for up to 2 months. Make sure to thaw them before you pan-fry them. For the air fryer, you can put them directly.
Cooking time for air fryer: 5 minutes at the max heat (mine goes up to 200°C).
